Generation No. 2

      2.  Christopher2 Noll (---1) was born Abt. 1823 in Germany1, and died 04 May 1898 in Somerville, Middlesex County Massachusetts2.  He married (1) Mary ---.  She was born Abt. 1825 in Germany3.  He married (2) Barbara Dame, daughter of Charles Dame and Barbara ---.  She was born Abt. 1824 in Germany, and died 20 April 1888 in Boston, Suffolk County Massachusetts4.

Notes for Christopher Noll:

Christopher's travels seem to have matched those of his brother in law Michael Damm, for they both appear in the parish records of All Saints Church in Derbyshire England.

There were no children recorded in Massachusetts for Christopher Noll in Boston between 1855 and 1865.

Christopher appears in the US Census of 1860, aged 47, weaver, living in Boston Ward 1, next door to Michael Damm.  He lives with wife Mary aged 35 and children Michael, 10 (born London), Elizabeth, 8 (Born London) and Caroline, 3 (born Boston).  Charles is not present in this census.

In the Census for 1870, Christopher, weaver, appears in Boston, Ward 2, aged 56.  He is living with wife Barbara, aged 45, son Charles, aged 20, daughter Elizabeth, aged 17, daughter Caroline, aged 13, daughter Theresa, aged 2, and daughter-in-law Emma, aged 20.  Charles and Elizabeth were born in England, and the remaining children were born in Mass.  Christopher indicates his place of birth as Hesse Darmstadt.  Charles, aged 20 is likely the Michael listed in the previous census5.

The US Census of 1880 lists Chris Noll, aged 66 living at 327 North Street in Boston, maintaining a boarding house.  Living with him are wife Barbara, aged 54, Kate Dunn 20, Caroline Dunn, 20 servants, daughter Elizabeth Null, 27 and Margaret Dame and family.  I believe that the Dunn surname is a corruption of the original Damm name and the Null name is a corruption of the Noll name.

Christopher's death record has him living in Dorchester at the time of his death, aged 87.  He is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.

This is likely the brother of Michael's first wife, for the places of birth of his children matches those of Michael and Katherine's children.

Christopher is listed in the Boston City Directories starting in 1858.  Through the 1850's he is listed as a saloonkeeper with business on the corner of Clark and North Street. Later, he lists his occupation as musician, and still later as a weaver. He disappears from the directories in 1865.

Notes for Barbara Dame:

Barbara's maiden name is mentioned in her death record.  It does not appear that she was in any way related to Michael Damm or his family.

Children of Christopher Noll and Mary --- are:

Theresa3 Noll, born 10 October 1867 in Boston, Suffolk County Massachusetts8; died 11 January 1880 in Boston, Suffolk County Massachusetts9.

@3.  Katherine2 Noll (---1) was born Abt. 1833 in Germany, and died Bet. May 1858 - 15 February 1859.  She married Michael Damm10 06 January 1852 in Derby, Derbyshire England11, son of John Damm and Rebecca ---.  He was born Abt. 1831 in Germany, and died Abt. 1880.

Notes for Katherine Noll:

It is possible that Katharine had a different mother than her sibling, given the large gap in birth dates.  I have been so far unable to determine whether she died in Germany, England, or in the US.

One Catherine Damm is listed as having arrived in New Orleans in 1 April 1853 aboard the ship Charles Cooper.  aged 20.  If this is the same Katharine, then we are left to wonder how and when Henry and Mary Katharine arrived.
